Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that isn't answered here?
Call us at (860) 231-2824.

Handicapped accessibility?
Although we do not have elevators, we do provide access to those with special needs through outside entrances on each level. You are welcome to call ahead or ask an associate at our admissions desk to make arrangements for assistance in touring our museum.

Strollers and carriages?
Infant backpacks are recommended, since stairs can make strollers and carriages hard to navigate. Strollers can be “parked” in our lobby near our membership kiosk.

Coat/Bag Storage?
We have limited space to hang coats and store bags in our lobby. Additional coat racks are available on our upper level. Where to eat and things to do?

Food Service?
The Children’s Museum now offers vending machines with healthy snack and drink options to help keep you refueled during your visit.   These machines accept coin and bills only.  We ask that food and drink be kept within the small seating area we offer.  This area may also be used to enjoy your own packed lunch.   In addition we are located a few steps from West Hartford Center and the new Blue Back Square.  There are many places to eat within a few blocks. Maps and menus are available at our admissions desk.

Gift Shop?
The Explore Store offers high quality, educational, science kits, jewelry, toys, gifts and books.

On a tight schedule?
The Explore Store can customize souvenir bags for your group. Call us for more information.

Best time to visit?
The Children’s Museum often receives heavier traffic on rainy or days of inclement weather, school vacations or holidays. The Children’s Museum is also busy on weekday mornings when school groups are most likely to visit.

Safety?
Help keep the museum safe for all visitors. Encourage walking instead of running, use indoor voices, and note locations of fire exits in case of an emergency. Please see our Guest Relations staff if you encounter any safety concerns while touring our museum.

Medical Emergencies?
Our staff keeps a supply of band-aids and ice packs for minor injuries at the admissions desk. No internal medications can be dispensed by museum staff. For anything major please ask the museum to call 911.

ATM?
We do not offer an ATM machine on premises, but gladly accept MasterCard, Visa, cash and checks (with proper ID) at our admissions desk and in our Explore Store.

Changing Tables?
For your convenience changing stations are located in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.

Parking?
Parking is free and is located directly behind the museum building.
