Galactic Art – Astronomy Paintings

October 1 – January 5, 2009
Rick Costello will be displaying his space art in our Green Gallery, on the Mezzanine Level, this fall and winter. Come see Rick’s astronomically accurate paintings of the heavens the next time you visit the Museum.

Wolf Night
Friday October 3, 7:00 pm

The Wolf Conservation Center of New York and Atka the Arctic Wolf will be visiting the Museum this fall. There will be an informative presentation about wolves in the Sci-dome followed by an up close look at a live wolf. Atka the WCC wolf ambassador will walk among guests and staff will be close by to answer questions.

Zula Day – Saturday, October 11

Celebrate the last showings of Zula® Patrol – Under the Weather

  • Come dressed as your favorite character.
  • Meet Zeeter of the Zula Patrol.
  • Participate in space activities.
  • Listen to special guest, Kathleen V. Kudlinski as she reads from and signs her new book, Boy, Were We Wrong About the Solar System.

Free with Museum membership or general admission. The Zula® Patrol – Under the Weather program will no longer be shown after October 13.

Columbus Day, October 13
Martian Blast
– Perform “out of this world” experiments as we explore the red planet. We’ll cap off the fun launching water rockets.

Election Day, November 4
Science Smorgasbord
– Cast your ballot for your favorite area of science. We’ll “fill your plate” with so many activities it will be hard to choose.

Veterans Day, November 11
Animal Detectives
– Unravel the mysteries of the animal kingdom using clues from footprints, feathers, skulls and live animals.

New planetarium program:
Connecticut Skies Live


Beginning October 15, the Travelers Science Dome will be using our SciDome projector to present a completely live planetarium program.  It will be a half hour tour of the current stars, planets, and Moon and will change on a daily basis.  See our website for dates and times.

Preschool Openings
The Preschool has limited openings in the morning 3 year old class from 9-12. Please call the school at 860.523.7449 for registration information.

Tales & Tails

Our animal-themed morning series for toddlers is scheduled to begin on October 16th. Children will engage in activities including: arts & crafts, up-close animal demonstrations, related story readings and movement and music.

Classes will take place on Thursday mornings at 9:30-10:15 or 10:45-11:30.

Halloween Howl 2008

Haunted Harvest
Monday, October 27, 4:30-7:30 pm


Step back in time and experience a real
“Old Fashioned Harvest Party.”
Children and adults are encouraged to come in costume! There will be games, dancing, crafts, animal demos, experiments and a “Harvest Maze.” All ages will enjoy this spectacular seasonal event.
$6/person TCM members (ages 2 and older) $8/person non-members (ages 2 and older)

Friday Evening Walk

An evening will be held on Friday, October 3 from 7:30 – 8:45 pm. Dress for cooler weather and bring a flashlight to observe the wide range of animals active on cooler autumn evenings; pre-registration is not required.

Saturday Morning Bird Walk

Binoculars and footwear for wet ground conditions are all you’ll need as we wander the trails through Werner’s Woods on Saturday, October 4 from 7:30 until 9:00 am.  $2.00 for members, $3.00 for nonmembers.

Discovery Days is the Nature Center’s enrichment series for children in pre-school and in grades K-3. Discovery Days continue through the school year.  Registration is now open for programs beginning in mid-October.

Join us for a fall foliage walk along the trails of Werner's Woods.  Geared for all ages, the walk will be on Sunday afternoon, October 19 from 2:00-3:30 PM.

Hobgoblin Fair Scheduled October 25

Roaring Brook Nature Center's annual Hobgoblin Fair will be held on Saturday, October 25. A morning and an afternoon session are scheduled.  "Track-or-Treat" walk, crafts and more!
