Galactic Art - Astronomy Paintings
By amateur astronomer and painter, Rick Costello

For the fall, The Children’s Museum is proud to feature the space art of Rick Costello in our Green Gallery.  A resident of Manchester, Rick is an amateur astronomer and artist specializing in astronomically accurate paintings of the heavens.  Galactic Art – Astronomy Paintings will be on display from October 1 – January 5, 2009.   Learn more about Rick at www.costellospaceart.com.  Visit our website for more information on this new exhibit.

Wolf Night
Friday October 3, 7:00 pm

The Wolf Conservation Center of New York and Atka the Arctic Wolf will be visiting the museum this fall. There will be an informative presentation about wolves in the Sci-dome followed by an up close look at a live wolf. Atka the WCC wolf ambassador will walk among guests and staff will be close by to answer questions.

Tales & Tails

Once again The Children’s Museum will be offering our popular animal-themed morning series for toddlers. Join us this fall for our 8-week class that will include many engaging toddler activities including; arts and crafts, up-close animal interactions, related stories and music and movement.

Columbus Day, October 13
Martian Blast – Prepare to blast off on a mission to explore the red planet. Launch water rockets and perform “out of this world” experiments.

Election Day, November 4
Science Smorgasbord
– A little bit of this, a little bit of that, the science mishmash is where it’s at! Sample some science and fill your plate with a mound of activities.

Veteran’s Day, November 11
Animal Detectives
– Crack the code to the amazing world of animals. Use clues like footprints, feathers, skulls, and live animals to unravel the mysteries of the animal kingdom.

Saturday Morning Bird Walks

Wander the trails through Werner’s Woods during the fall songbird migration.  Binoculars and footwear for wet ground conditions are all you’ll need.  Morning bird walks will be held September 27 and October 4 from 7:30 until 9:00 AM.  Check the website for details

Nature Center Offers Mushroom Walk

Join Marlene Snecinski of the Connecticut Valley Mycological Society for a mushroom walk on Sunday, September 28 from 2:00-3:30 PM.  Learn which mushrooms are considered delicacies and which to avoid.  Photographers welcome!  Check website for details

Nature Begins Fall Discovery Day Programs

Discovery Days is the Nature Center’s enrichment series for children in pre-school and in grades K-3.    Registration is now open for the following programs in September/October.  Discovery Days continue through the school year.  See website for details

Nature Center Hours: Tueday-Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm;
Sundays from 1 - 5 pm. Trails through Werner’s Woods open daily dawn until dusk.
